    My Silvertone 1482 uses a 6X4 (well, the tube is 6X4WA... not sure what the "WA" is). The wattage on this amp is inconsistently published, but I'm safe to say it's under 25 watts. I have this routed through a load box into the Pod Go instrument input, effectively making my amp both a bedroom level cabinet as well as a big-honkin "drive pedal" in front of the Pod-Go (all of which is "yummy"). As for the caps... I thought one day I might try my hand at building a tube amp, but decided against it: "Step 1: make sure you bleed the caps or you might die". I decided to not approach step 1.

    I have built a guitar with 4 courses of octave paired strings. I could not find a pickup with pole pieces at the correct spacing. A blade pickup solved the problem. There is another option, the stacked humbucker, as used in Burns guitars from the 60's. When the factory closed in the mid-60's, Golumbs of Glasgow in the Saltmarket bought the entire factory stock. I bought one of those pickups and fitted it into the sound hole of my Eko Ranger 6.

    Why is it no one can tell this doesn't make any sense???? Everyone explains this like this like it makes sense... but HOW can the cable know what noise is versus the signal and invert the signal back and forth to ONLY remove noise??? HELLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOO... it doesn't

    • @ScienceofLoud
      @ScienceofLoud День назад

      It makes perfect sense if you understand the physics of what is happening. I would suggest looking at wave physics - constructive and destructive interference for a foundation in that. Your issue is that you appear to be expecting some sentience on behalf of the cable - and falsely assuming that noise and signal are two separate entities that can be actively distinguished between. The cable doesn't 'know' anything, it's simply carrying two copies of the signal - one of them phase inverted. Noise will get superimposed onto both of those signals - once the two signals reach their destination, the phase inverted one is flipped back: The parts of the 2 signals that are identical will be reinforced while the parts that are phase flipped will eliminate each other in combination. The only parts that can possibly be different are the noise that was picked up in the cable. All very basic physics.

    • @YoungNino2017

      @@ScienceofLoud No stupid... it's because YOU don't actually understand what's happening and it's obvious in how you explain this like 50 other NPCs who don't understand how it works and miss key points that make it actually make sense. Someone else you actually understands this has a much much much much better video than all of you actually explains it and HITS the key points which no one else does. One cable always carries a signal inverted signal from the source, the noise the cable picks up is IN PHASE as it hits both wires equally as interference, with a differential amplifier (which is a NECESSARY component) the second wire is inverted with THEN puts ONLY the noise out of phase and amplifies the signal times 2 (2A). I KNOW you didn't actually understand this because you are like every other youtuber with a vague explanation of how it supposedly works. Like for instance, what if I were to ask you... how is a simply wire beside another wire out of phase?

    Do you (or anybody reading) know what the different model numbers on the JA-60 refer to? When you referred to them as Jazzmaster pickups in the video I got a bit confused because was sure when I bought mine a few years back they were advertised as P90's. Having checked the Thomann website I now see that the description of the pickups on the CC and OW models are "JM Alnico 5" whereas the SB pickups are "Alnico 5 vintage style p90 single coils". Are these different descriptions correct or are the pickups essentially the same?

    the back tire on my motorbike was done in one season. my only tube amp is a 5 watt class-a EL-84, I use a large plate pre-amp tube and run enough boost that all the clipping happens in the power amp. ( because it sounds better to me ) do you think I will get a year out of my 7189? ........ I have to have ways to cope, and if that's more tires and power valves then so be it.

    Hi Colin! Question regarding hooking up additional speakers. Assuming we are connecting loads with appropriate impedance values, what would be the impact on the output/tone/volume of the amp when hooking up a single cab like at 4:05 versus hooking up two cabs at 6:05 ? Since the amp still has the same amount of watts, are we effectively splitting the amp's power in half?

    I had this exact same guitar and it was TERRIBLE! Sharp frets and scratchy frets, would never stay I tune, bridge fell out when I removed strings,and those god awful pickups! I went as far as everything and tried to sand it down and repaint it because it feels like plastic and that’s where the problems started. The cap on this thing was impossible to get smooth and my paint job turned into a complete mess! Then I started looking at parts to get it up to a decent level and quickly realized that a set of decent pickups were going to cost more than the guitar cost to begin with, not even counting all of the rest of the parts! Needless to say I trashed this thing and I’ve not made the mistake of listening to others claiming that “Harley Benton is amazing” again!

    Hey Colin, I'm thinking about getting this head to power 2 16ohm marshall 4x12's and i was wondering how does the clean sound hold up when you crank it up to earplugs levels? does it distort/clip? & how loud does it go? will it keep up with a mesa dual rectifier in a club/venue? I'm currently using a joyo zombie 2 thru a 4x12 and it gets drowned out. If i turn up it clips and sounds awful. It is only like 20/25 watts though, So I'm hoping since this can power 2 16ohm 4 x 12's it'll give me the power i need to not get drowned out and maintain killer tone.

    I'm a week late, but PLEASE keep the tubular videos coming, I've been mesmerized by the hot, glowing tubes/valves (valves inside tubes?) since I first saw them as a laddie in the early 1960's, when my dad's Fischer receiver used tubes. Tubes with valves inside them cooking are fascinating to me, because I can SEE the electrons going through the circuit, and I can FEEL them. Of course I was the weird kind of child that watched records going around for hours, turning down the volume so I could hear the music coming off the grooves (and I still love it). Uncle Doug, Psionic Lyle, and now this channel are my favorites. Three different personalities, three different perspectives, three beautiful minds...

I was curious how adding additional speakers affects volume and/or loudness under the same amplifier conditions. For instance, on the Rocker 15, what would be the impact of hooking it up to a 2x12 vs a 1x12? I read that the additional speaker would add 3db - is that accurate? Love your work and your videos!

I don't know if they fixed the issues with the MKII unit, but be careful, a Tester that you cannot trust is completely useless
